My name is Dalya Buhamad, Im a 15 year old student in BBS KUWAIT. I’ve always been been an advocate for sustainability, and making sure that the voices of the youth are acknowledged and heard. Ive participated in many events and programs in and out of school that emphasize the importance of sustainability such as Connect With Nature, Sustainable Campus Initiative, Al Nowair, Hand In Hand and other activities that encourage the youth to come up with solutions for issues in the world such as MUN (Model United Nations). I would like to attend this talk show to learn more and educate myself as well as others about the importance of sustainability. For example the COVID-19 crisis has shocked us all. We had to adapt to a different lifestyle, masks, staying home, and frequent sanitization has become the norm. Of course, this inconvenience wasn’t easy to live with at first, and it still is a struggle today, but a positive has occurred once quarantine and lockdown rules were put into place. One lesson we can learn from this period is that we need to think long-term, and beyond financial risks. We need to change our lifestyle and aim for an economic recovery that supports sustainability. The choices we make now can improve or worsen the state of our planet. Building a sustainable economic environment should remain on top of the worldwide policy agendas. Public and private actors should apply their skills and powers to achieve a better future. We need to coordinate globally and coordinate across all sectors. I believe that we can recover from this global pandemic, whilst still prioritising the environment and sustainability. Daily global CO2 emissions decreased by –17% by early April 2020 compared with the mean 2019 levels, and if in just a few months emissions have decreased, than what would happen if we can adapt to a new lifestyle and have a balance between our lives, and our planet. Thank you!
